DAY 1

Well it has been one busy day for the Colorado Avalanche.

First they make an offer with the Minnesota Wild, and then with the New York Rangers.

Both deal brought in some players that will help now and some players that will help with the future of the Avalanche.

From The Wild is German superstar Tim Stutzle. Who's skill at a young age can launch his into a star in this league.

Gabe Vilardi coming from the New York Ranger is another player with the skills to be a star.

So yes the new GM of the Avalanche was very busy on his first day on the job.

We will see if it pays off.

To The FUTURE

Oilers future continues to look bright, GM Brent has been the most active as i feel we have ever been here in Edmonton. The off-season seemed like a revolving door, players were coming in and leaving with in days. Many talented players left, bringing in youth and picks/prospects. We feel we have a good solid foundation to build around here now, plus we have enough future pieces to be competitive for seasons or to make a huge splash of a trade! Time will tell what we do here in Edmonton, but the trades will likely keep coming.

We have some very serviceable pieces ready to make more of an impact on a new team.

Oskar Lindblom is one of them,

Marco Scandella is another

RULE CHANGE OVERPLAYING GOALIE

Rule Change

Overplaying Goalies will now result in the following

NHL or AHL goalie overplaying will result in being suspended for remainder of season + 3 playoff games + 2,500,000 cap hit following season

NHL & AHL goalie overplaying will result in being suspended for remainder of season + 3 playoff games each goalie + 5,000,000 cap hit following season

Overplaying goalies has changed because I felt there needed to be more effect on a team for trying to over use a goalie, so thats why there is the team cap hit penalty. Suspension is NOW only 3 playoff games rather than 7 as well. and will not carry over into following season. Hope it all makes sense, if any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM on slack or email me back.

I will be keeping track of the goalies in a google doc for all to see.

Kings Add 3

LOS ANGELES, CA - On the opening day of free agency, the Los Angeles Kings came away with what they were after most of all: Depth.  In signing defenders Jeff Petry and Jordan Oesterle along with young winger Ty Ronning, the club was able to add skill and balance around the periphery of an already formittable lineup.

Petry, 32, signed a very team friendly deal agreeing to a 4-year pact that will see the stay-at-home defender make $1.87 million annually.  Coming on the heals of two seasons in Boston with the Bruins, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound defender will likely start out on the Kings 3rd pairing with youngster Christian Wolanin, but the expectation is that he will be afforded an opportunity to move up in the pairings.

In Oesterle the Kings land a depth defender that is probably good enough to hold down a 6-7 position on most pro rosters, but will ultimately start the season in Ontario with the Reign.  An excellent skater, Oesterle will be given loads of leeway to show his worth as he is expected to be one of the Reign's big contributors.

Lastly, with the organization doing a complete re-work since the hiring of their new GM with a larger focus on skillful youth and energy, the signing of Ronning, 22, comes as no surprise.  An offensive threat every time he has the puck, Ronning will look to join the bumper crop of newly drafted up and comers on the Reign roster.

With roster spots filling up quickly throughout the organization, the Kings aren't expected to do too much more in the free agent market.  In speaking to the GM, it appears as though the team would ideally like to sign a couple more veterans to help in the gorwth of their vast and increasing amount of youth as well as a couple more depth defenders.

With Window Shrinking, The Time is Now

The Canucks have been active reshaping their team ahead of the upcoming season. GM Ratcliffe got to work quickly after the season ended..."We know we have a great group of players in their prime on great contracts led by MacKinnon, Scheifele, Huberdeau and Point and we weren't ready to throw in the towel yet. We came up short at the end of last season as we made a push to make the playoffs but we are hungry this year to improve."

The deal that sent Josi to Miller was strategic to finish off the top 6 and add some sandpaper to the skill up front. Knowing the Free Agent pool was littered with quality defenseman the team quickly signed Pulock to fill out the top 4 defence, and added depth defenseman Chris Tanev to fill out the 3rd pairing. The team then dealt futures with a 1st round pick for Carey Price to sure up the goaltending situation. "While Flower provides some quality goaltending, he is on the back of his career and we knew if we were gonna go deep this year we needed to add a piece to the crease. When Price became available we knew we had to act to bring him in. We are happy with our team and will add some depth pieces to finish off the offseason, but we are excited for the year to begin!"
